THE Queensland Rocketry Society will take additional safety precautions at all future rocket launches after a fire on Sunday.
Rocketry society public relations officer Ari Piirainen said the club planned to add a 1000 litre water tank to its safety equipment.
This is on top of three existing fire extinguishers and the mowing of grass at the site ahead of launch days.
He said in seven years of launching rockets at Cedar Grove the club had never had a grass fire before Sunday.
Mr Piirainen said the fire occurred because of the type of motor used on the rocket, which produced lots of sparks that were carried by the wind onto longer grass.
"We will not allow those rocket motors to be used in dry conditions and that will eliminate the problem," he said.
"They shoot off lots of sparks when launched and look spectacular but that is what caused the fires."
Mr Piirainen said the club was not concerned that council would stop its lease of the land as it had taken all safety precautions to prevent a fire.
