A CEDAR Grove cattle farmer says rockets should never have been launched in such dry and windy conditions on Sunday.
Dave Brennan's property borders the launch site on Cedar Grove Road used by the Queensland Rockety Society (QRS) and said the fire came to within a metre of his hay shed.
He said he could not believe the "stupidity" of the QRS to launch rockets in very dry and windy conditions.
"I always knew something like this would happen at some point," he said.
"The fire burnt a lot of grass that we would use as feed and now it has caused us more cost. We are already buying hay and now we are going to have to buy more.
"Everybody knows the trouble farmers are having with drought and yet in spite of that rockets were still launched in those conditions."
Mr Brennan said he would like the QRS launches stopped.
He was not alone in his concerns, with fellow property owner Carmen Edom commenting on Jimboomba Times' Facebook page that she had "said for the last few weeks with all this dry ground that they shouldn't be aloud (sic) to launch any more rockets until it greens up around here".
She said she hoped council would stop the rocket launches until the dry conditions eased.
Mr Brennan said he appreciated the help of his neighbours and firefighters in stopping the fire from getting out of control.
He said the fire took many people needlessly away from their families at the weekend and it should never have happened.
