Haugesund, Norway.
Haugesund, Norway.

Why go: The homeland of the Vikings inspires with incredible vistas and natural spectacles. Journey through 3500 years of Norwegian history, and gain insight into the charming 19th-century towns and lives of the people who built this coastal region.

The ultimate arrival: Visit this scenic coastal town rich in history on Viking's new Nordic Wonders ocean voyage.

Destination highlights: The coastal town of Haugesund is considered the birthplace of Norway. Typical of a Norwegian seaside town, it features rustic timber houses, stunning sea views and magnificent vistas of fjords from the Steinsfjellet viewpoint. The region's cultural heritage is inextricably linked to the sea, having been built on the herring-fishing industry. The surrounding charming towns also thrived on its success and continue to do so today.

Do not miss: Voted one of the 10 most beautiful waterfalls in the world by CNN, Langfoss Stol is reached by hiking an old mountain pathway. View the village of Akrafjord and the Folgefonna National Park below.

My all-time favourite destination is ... Cornwall. From the giant seagulls to the blustery beaches, Cornish pasties and fishing villages, it stirs something romantic and seafaring in me.

Next on my bucket list is … Mongolia. I want to go somewhere really unique that feels totally foreign and challenges my way of life.

My top travel tip is … Don’t plan too much. Walk the streets and let it happen. And make sure you check out what’s within a few blocks of your hotel - sometimes the best local food is found that way.
