Apple Vision Pro unveiled at 2023 Worldwide Developers Conference

Tech giant Apple is touting its augmented reality headset as a "new era of computing".

The Apple Vision Pro is a "revolutionary spatial computer" worn as a headset and controlled by a user's eyes, hands and voice.

The new product was unveiled at Apple's worldwide developers conference on June 5 in the US.

"Vision Pro lets users interact with digital content in a way that feels like it is physically present in their space," the announcement said.

A wearer can browse through apps with their eyes, tap a finger to select, flick their wrist to scroll and use their voice to dictate.

The product is set to be available in the US from early 2024 at a starting price of $US3499 ($5303), before expanding to more countries later in the year.

Apple chief executive Tim Cook said it was the first Apple product users look through rather than look at.

"Vision Pro is a new kind of computer that augments reality by seamlessly blending the real world with the digital world," he said.

"This marks the beginning of a journey that will bring a new dimension to powerful, personal technology."

Some of the innovations announced include watching movies with others or working together on a presentation through FaceTime, or creating a personal movie theatre from anywhere with a "screen that feels 100 feet wide".

Or users can step into a new environment with virtual reality and "spatial audio" to completely block out the real world.

The device can also be used to "create the perfect workplace wherever you are".
