Veterans and families affiliated with the Greenbank RSL Sub Branch have been given a helping hand, with the organisation receiving a substantial donation from Community Involvement Solutions (CIS).
A total of $7591.50 was donated to the Sub Branch, with the majority of it allocated for pantry staples and grocery vouchers for members in need, and $1584 given to the men's shed.
The money was presented to the Sub Branch by the charity's director for people, culture and communications Selina Rowe, whose father Warren had co-founded the organisation four years ago.
Both Mr Rowe and his co-founder Matthew Pitt are former servicemen, and Ms Rowe said this meant giving back to organisations like the RSL and Legacy Australia was something that came from the heart.
"We're firm believers in community and we're firm believers in camaraderie and family," Ms Rowe said.
"Looking after veterans and their widows is very important to us and very close to our hearts."
Research compiled by CIS suggests one in three veterans are unemployed, while 46 per cent of veterans experience a mental health disorder within five years of leaving the defence force.
Ms Rowe said this made the donation to the men's shed vital as it helped provide mental health support to returned personnel.
The money donated to the Sub Branch was raised through a Giving Machine, a vending machine where customers purchase charitable donations rather than snacks, installed at the Logan Hyperdome from November to December 2022.
Ms Rowe said she looked forward to strengthening the partnership with the Sub Branch into the future as CIS built its capabilities.
"We appreciate the relationship that we have with the Sub Branch and being able to fundraise for things that matter to everybody," she said.
"We hope that it will be an ongoing relationship."
Sub Branch board member Rod West accepted the funds and thanked CIS on behalf of the recipients.
Founded in 2019, CIS supports veterans and Indigenous people across the country through a range of programs.
