From the world's leading newspapers to renowned tour companies, everyone's ranking this South Australian island on their top places to visit in 2023 lists.
"A zoo without fences" is how The New York Times is describing South Australia's iconic Kangaroo island after ranking it No. 7 on its 52 Places to Go in 2023 list.
"A short trip from Adelaide, South Australia's capital, the nearly 1700-square-mile Kangaroo Island is known for incredible wildlife, breathtaking ocean views and its status as an ecological haven," says the article, which has named London, Morioka in Japan, Monument Valley in the US, Kilmartin Glen in Scotland, Auckland and Palm Springs in the top six spots.
The Kangaroo Island Koala and Wildlife Rescue Centre, and Seal Bay Conservation Park, where "you can watch one of Australia's largest colonies of sea lions frolic on the beach", are just some of the places the newspaper recommends visiting.
Global travel experts Abercrombie & Kent has also ranked Kangaroo Island among its hottest destinations for 2023 and launched a new seven-day tour, which includes a stay on a working farm in a restored historic 1920s homestead. southaustralia.com
