Logan City Council is hosting its first Logan NAIDOC at the Pools celebration on July 6, with free entry available to the indoor heated pools in Beenleigh and Underwood from 12-1pm.
Supported by a grant from the Australian Government's Driving Social Inclusion through Sport and Physical Activity initiative, the event coincides with NAIDOC Week celebrations.
City Lifestyle Chair Councillor Laurie Koranski said the event, taking place during the school holidays, was a great jumping-off point for residents interested in the council's Nyerroolahle Logan program.
"We welcome the community to our pools to learn more about our free Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander swimming program - Nyerroolahle Logan," Cr Koranski said.
"Nyerroolahle is the Yugambeh word for swim and this program is designed to boost the health and well-being of participants.
"We want people to have fun in the water and enjoy time together while being healthy and active."
Nyerroolahle Logan is a free swimming program tailored to the city's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residents, for those who are 16 years and older.
Activities offered under the program include swimming lessons, Mums and Bubs classes, Lifesaving training and more, with further information available at the Logan Leisure Centres website.
All are welcome at the Logan NAIDOC at the Pools event, and attendees are invited to bring lunch to enjoy together once the free hour of swimming finishes.
Attendees will also receive a free bag containing a water bottle, swim bag, colouring in pencils and educational NAIDOC resources.
The Beenleigh event will also give residents to learn more about the proposed upgrades to the outdoor pool area, and a survey on the council's Have Your Say website will be open from July 6.
Logan NAIDOC at the Pools will take place at the Beenleigh Aquatic Centre and Logan North Aquatic Centre from 12-1pm on Wednesday July 6.
