Fix the roads
Sadly we have witnessed another horrific crash on our local roads, this time on Stockleigh Road. Whilst too many of our young people die on the roads unnecessarily through immaturity and reckless driving. The council must shoulder much of the blame. Stockleigh/Mollenhagen Road is a busy road with high daily traffic volumes. It has suffered terribly over the past 10 years with a complete lack of repairs and maintenance and this has only become exasperated since the recent floods in late February. The road has been riddled with numerous deep potholes for the past four months and not once has the council attempted to repair these dangerous obstacles. As a daily driver of this road, I am constantly avoiding potholes so that my vehicles are not damaged. Unfortunately, some of these holes can only be avoided by veering into the oncoming traffic, placing myself and numerous others at risk. Whilst the deaths on Stockleigh Road this week may be the result of speed or reckless driving, it would not surprise me if these young people met their fate as a result of avoiding these life-threatening road obstacles caused by the council's complete lack of duty of care to their constituents. Councillors are more interested in media stunts and photography sessions than in performing as elected officials. Shame on you, Logan City Council. Do your job and fix the roads.

Thanks for the support
My daughter rose and I have missed the Now and Zen team. Andy, Sally and the staff are like family and we love them dearly. When I was diagnosed with breast cancer, Andy and the staff rallied around and donated money to help with transport costs. They also let us choose some clothes free of charge to help me out in my time of need. The staff have become like an extended family to us and we have missed catching up with them. It made me cry to hear that the shop was closing because I wouldn't be able to just pop in for a chat and see their smiling faces. I am so happy now to hear that they open again and look forward to seeing their smiling faces.
I am so proud of what Now and Zen have achieved. They regularly fundraise and donate to worthy causes. I am pleased to say that they are my friends.
See you soon, lovelies, for a cuppa and a laugh.

Climate thinking
Gil May has "lived through droughts, floods, freezing cold that killed stock, heat waves and bushfires" and appears to think that his experience disproves the existence of global warming. (Correct the climate record, 28/6) But it is not logical to deduce from past weather, even extremes, that global warming is not occurring. The fact is, the past eight years are the eight warmest since modern record-keeping began in 1880 and the warming trend is clear. What I find more interesting than a list of hot days gone by, is the question of why some people think that dramatically changing the composition of the atmosphere, which we clearly are, won't have consequences. We all understand that if we take in more calories than we use, we will put on weight. That concept of balance is precisely the same one that applies to adding and removing warming carbon dioxide emissions into and from our atmosphere. Won't billions of people burning fossil fuel for our modern consumer lifestyles plus billions of petrol cars and folk flying everywhere affect the atmosphere and the climate? Especially when we are also cutting down huge areas of forests for cattle or crops. I think we know the answer. So the next question is: Do we have the courage to change?

Budget hard on pensioners
I'll tell you what I think when I see how much my rates have gone up on next notice as being an age pensioner, any increase is hard to budget the extra with all the surging costs going up daily nowadays.
