Forde MP Bert van Manen has said a re-elected Liberal National Government will help fund additional CCTV cameras in Logan.
The Coalition has promised to allocate $1 million in funding for the installation of 20 new cameras, working with the Logan City Council to identify new CCTV locations in the federal electorates of Forde and Wright.
The member for Forde said new CCTV cameras will work to prevent crime and ensure community safety.
"CCTV not only works as a deterrent to criminals, it also allows law enforcement agencies to catch those who commit crimes," Mr van Manen said.
"Crime is an issue for every community and any measure that helps combat this problem is welcome."
Areas being considered for new CCTV include Shailer Park, Waterford West, Loganlea, Waterford, Bethania, Park Ridge, North Mclean, Cornubia, Tanah Merah, Loganholme, Mt Warren Park, Eagleby and Beenleigh.
The Coalition's announcement follows a similar pledge from Labor in April where Rankin MP Jim Chalmers also promised additional funding for CCTV cameras in Logan.
The announcement was met with criticism from Greens candidate for Rankin Neil Cotter who said the funding would not fix the long-term issue of crime in the community as it doesn't look to deal with the causes but rather the symptoms of crime.
Members of the Queensland Police Service and Logan City Council officers monitor footage gathered through the Logan Safety Camera Program around the clock.
QPS reported using the program's monitoring room 22,635 times in 20221, requesting footage from the council on 425 occasions.
