Labor candidate for Forde Rowan Holzberger has promised $250 thousand of funding for the Park Ridge Pirates AFL club if he is elected in May.
The new funds would match an existing commitment from the Queensland Government and bring the total investment in the club, which was recently paid a visit by AFL star Dane Swan, to half a million dollars.
Mr Holzberger said the investment would help the club, which has been based out of Park Ridge State High School for the past 14 years, realise its potential and construct permanent facilities as its membership continues to grow.
"The Park Ridge Pirates are a club built from nothing but vision and hard work by Club President Andy Colenso and his team.
"I'm proud to match the $250,000 Linus Power secured from the Queensland Government to help the club build long dreamt-of facilities."
Mr Holzberger also said he thought sporting clubs in the electorate had been "overlooked" by the incumbent Morrison Government.
"These clubs have been overlooked in recent years for funding by the Federal Government, so this funding is long overdue and much needed as more people move to our community," he said.
State Member for Logan, Linus Power MP, said local sporting clubs were a valuable part of the community.
"Community clubs like the Pirates are the heart of our growing communities," Mr Power said.
"Labor will always invest in locally to ensure local kids have the facilities they deserve."
