AFTER heavy rains and widespread flooding created damage to Scenic Rim roads, council has advised motorists to use caution during the extended holiday period.
Council said the worst hit areas during the December floods included Mount. Alford, Crosby, Milford, Tarome, Rosevale, Carney's Creek, Sarabah, Flying Fox, Illinbah, Palen Creek, Rathdowney, Kooralbyn, Allenview, Beaudesert, Gleneagle, Barney View, Lamington, Christmas Creek, Running Creek, and Laravale.
They said crews had been out and about inspecting and assessing the damage to prioritise works needed to repair the damage.
Scenic Rim Mayor Greg Christensen said council was eligible to apply for funding through the Queensland Reconstruction Authority for damages caused by a natural disaster event.
"We know it is frustrating for drivers as well as our diverse agricultural industries," he said.
"Emergency works are being completed and our crews have now begun inspecting and assessing the extent of damage across the region in order to present our case for funding to complete the more advanced works needed to repair and improve our roads."
"This natural disaster funding opportunity including the consideration and allocation of funds will take a few months, so I would urge people to be patient, with the knowledge that we are working through it.
"Right across our region our roads are being impacted, and our crews are working as hard as they can to fix them.
"It is crucial for people to remember that our wet season is not over yet."
Council said it was responsible for 963 kilometres of sealed and 793 kilometres of unsealed roads in the region with its budget supplemented by State and Federal grants.
The Main Roads Department said state roads were also being assessed.
"We are working with Scenic Rim Regional Council to undertake emergency repairs and investigate damage caused by flooding in November and December last year," a spokesman said.
Impacted state-controlled roads include:
- Mount Lindesay Highway
- Lake Moogerah Road
- Boonah-Rathdowney Road
- Carney's Creek Road
- Maroon Dam Road
- Mount Alford Road
- Boonah-Fassifern Road
- Kalbar Connection Road
- Ipswich-Boonah Road
- Lamington National Park Road.
"Significant repairs are needed on Lamington National Park Road after a large landslip onto private property. Emergency works are underway with traffic control and lane restrictions in place," the TMR spokesman said.
"Contractors have attended other locations in the region and made temporary repairs until permanent works can be programmed."

Eligible reconstruction works are jointly funded by the Commonwealth and Queensland governments under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).
