AFTER Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced all domestic border controls would be removed this weekend, Beaudesert's acting senior police officer Adrian Burns said these would include local border crossings.
"The Summerland Way border will open at 1am and Lions Road at 5am on Saturday," Senior Sergeant Burns said.
Beaudesert police have been monitoring the Queensland / NSW border at Palen Creek since entry restrictions were introduced in 2020.
The decision came with the Omicron variant already widespread in the community and 90 per cent of eligible Queenslanders expected to be fully vaccinated next week.
The premier urged people to have their booster shots as soon as possible with more than 91.33 per cent of people having had at least one dose and 88.18 now double dosed
As of Monday only 86.7 per cent of Beaudesert residents had received their first jab and 82.5 per cent double dosed
At Jimboomba 93.1 per cent had received their first dose and 89.1 per cent were double vaccinated.
Border checkpoints will be removed and travellers will no longer have to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test from early Saturday.
