Masks will return to south-east Queensland from tomorrow, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has just announced.
People will be required to wear masks in shops, hospitals and aged care, on public transport, in rideshare vehicles and airports and planes.
The latest mask mandate will be revised when 90 per cent of Queenslanders are fully vaccinated.
"This is a small price to pay for your freedoms," the premier said.
"We are asking this to slow the spread of the virus.
"So in shops in retail, so we know Christmas is some of the busiest times of the year for families doing their Christmas shopping and getting ready.
"I want Queenslanders to enjoy their Christmas and their holidays."
Ms Palaszczuk said there would not be any lockdowns over Christmas.
She said she expected the state to hit 90 per cent double dose in January.
The state recorded 18 new cases on Thursday.
The state government has been pleading with Queenslanders to resume wearing masks in indoor venues for days and Chief Health Officer John Gerrard warned on Thursday there was an "active discussion" about a return to a mandate in certain settings.
