BEAUDESERT is in mourning after the passing of former Beaudesert Shire mayor Joy Drescher.
Ms Drescher was well known for her community work with organisations like Rotary and the Beaudesert Bush Bards as well as being the local correspondent for the Beaudesert Times community news pages.
A beloved and well known character around town been involved in 11 Beaudesert and Scenic Rim local government elections, winning three as councillor and two as mayor.
After tackling a battle with breast cancer with good humour, it is understood Ms Drescher passed away yesterday evening.
She was seen by many encouraging local residents at the anti-mandate forum in Jubilee Park yesterday afternoon.
Scenic Rim MP Jon Krause said Ms Drescher was a larger-than-life character around Beaudesert.
"Rest in peace, Joy," he said.
"A Beaudesert legend, the last mayor of Beaudesert Shire, Rotarian, raconteur, wearer of great hats and the most identifiable and infectious laugh going around.
"The entire district should be grateful for her years of service to council and the community.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with Doug and all of Joy's family."
Scenic Rim mayor Greg Christensen said he was shocked and saddened by the news of Ms Drescher's passing.
"I share the pain of our community at the loss of someone who has been a larger-than-life part of the community," he said.
"For a long time her service to the community through council is well known and well recognised. But her ongoing service of both character, colour and good humour have provided an ongoing legacy that is treasured, will long be acknowledges and aspires to best of what we desire in our community.
