The official top tourist destination

FARMERS and producers across the Scenic Rim have come up with a new way of generating income by opening their gates to shoppers who want to buy their produce fresh from the source.

On October 25 visitors from as far away as far north Queensland loaded their Eskies and cooler bags into their cars and set off to enjoy a day in the country and buy their groceries at the same time.

There were 24 different properties to visit, including Running Creek Beef, Ladybrook Farm at Kerry, Christmas Creek Garlic as well as the ever popular Scenic Rim Brewery, Summerland Camels, O'Reilly's Vineyard, Tommerups Dairy and Towri Sheep Cheeses.

The Farm Gate Trail was one of the events that helped the Scenic Rim make it onto the Lonely Planet top 10 list tourism destinations to see in 2022. The global travel authority listed cities and regions to visit next year, with the Scenic Rim the only Australian inclusion.

Lonely Planet's Chris Zeigler says resilience, hospitality and innovation were among qualities that made the region attractive to next year's international travellers.
