A FORMER top cop fears it is a matter of time before another person is killed or seriously injured in a crash on Camp Cable Road.
Phil Notaro, who spent 34 years in the force, has called for the notorious road to be upgraded with more turning lanes and reduced speed limits.
It comes a year after a woman died on Camp Cable Road, and about a week on from a three-vehicle prang which saw five people hospitalised.
The road is a major thoroughfare between Yarrabilba and Jimboomba, seeing thousands of cars, school busses and trucks pass through daily.
Mr Notaro lives next to the road and said his neighbours always feared the worst when they heard a crash.
"It is just a matter of time before people are going to die or get seriously injured," he said.
"All the accidents happen the roadside of my fence, that's why I am aware of what's going on."
Mr Notaro said intersections at Amber Crescent and Hotz Road were of concern because they were in close proximity to each other.
"What happens is a car will drive off onto Amber Crescent, but people don't realise 70 metres up the road there is another intersection going right," he said.
"We constantly have people running up the backside of cars at high speeds.
"Ultimately, the road needs an upgrade and they need to put in proper turning lanes.
"I would even suggest changing the speed limit because it is 90km/h through here."
Logan MP Linus Power said there was already space for a right turn onto Amber Crescent and pull-off space near Hotz Road, but conceded more needed to be done on the road amid growing traffic.
"People need to take care with those intersections and realise that at any time someone could be pulling into a driveway as well," he said.
"It is already 90km/h, which is a significant speed. Anyone going faster than that I really have no sympathy for."
Police handed out several tickets for poor driver behaviour over the spring school holidays, including more than 3000 on-the-spot speeding fines.
Assistant Commissioner Ben Marcus said an alarming number of motorists were taking risks and said the number of lives lost in recent weeks was horrific.
Mr Power encouraged police to put speed cameras at known hotspots along Camp Cable Road.
Improvements would be made at the Edelsten Road intersection, with the build expected to start in the second quarter of 2022.
