EMERGENCY services responded to reports of a serious traffic crash at Mundoolun about 10.15 this morning.
Queensland Ambulance Service Senior Operations Supervisor Steve Clarke said senior supervisors with paramedics, including the High Acuity Response Unit, critical care paramedics were in attendance
"On arrival we identified a mini bus with about 20 people had collided head-on with a small car with one driver," Mr Clarke said.
"Two persons were trapped in the bus for well over an hour, both sustained critical injuries. One was airlifted to Gold Coast University Hospital and the other to Princess Alexandra Hospital."

He said firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to free the two people trapped in the bus. One was released at 11.26am and the second at 11.39am.
Mr Clarke said most of the injuries to people on the bus involved soft tissue injuries including cuts and scratches from broken glass.
The youngest taken to hospital was a 13-year-old boy with bruises and abrasions.
Besides the two airlifted, nine patients including a woman with a chest injury, were transported via road stable to Princess Alexandra Hospital and eight stable patients were transported to Logan Hospital.
Three patients were assessed at the scene however declined further transport.
A Queensland Police spokeswoman said the road was closed to traffic.
She said due to the number of people involved, the Forensic Crash Unit was at the scene and would investigate the cause of the crash.
