JIMBOOMBA people were lining up for COVID-19 tests as Brisbane's Ekka was cancelled and south-east Queensland's lockdown extended.
We need absolutely everyone in those LGAs to stay at home if they possibly can.
- Steven Miles
The town's locals answered deputy premier Steven Miles' weekend call for more tests by flocking to Jimboomba Central to get swabbed by health officials.
One woman, who was in the queue this morning, praised staff for their organisation.
"I got there at 7.20am and was home by 9.15," the woman, who did not want to be named, said.
"Yeah, you had to wait around a bit, but you [normally] have to wait around."
Staff at the centre said they had 80 people through the doors in the first hour and a half, the woman said.
She thanked fellow residents for doing the right thing.
"I think it's good, especially now the lockdown has been extended," she said.
"I woke up this morning with a niggly throat. I hadn't been to any of the hot spots but I thought I would do the right thing and get tested.
"It's better to be safe than sorry."
The lockdown is in place for Logan, Scenic Rim, Redlands, Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Ipswich, Lockyer Valley, Moreton Bay, Noosa, Somerset and the Sunshine Coast.
"That will make it an eight-day lockdown," Mr Miles said.
"And we desperately hope that that will be sufficient for our contact tracers to get into home quarantine absolutely anyone who could have been exposed to the Delta strain.
"But for it to work for us to come out of this at the weekend, we need absolutely everyone in those LGAs to stay at home if they possibly can."
Logan City Council services were closed, but its telephone lines were still operational.
"All Queensland Health restrictions and guidelines, including the wearing of masks, social distancing, travel and use of the Check In QLD app, will be strictly enforced across the City of Logan including those council venues that are not closed," a spokesman said.
State treasurer Cameron Dick said $260 million in financial support for small and medium businesses impacted by restrictions.
Payments of $5000 will be available for businesses.
