TWO people are missing after a fire tore through a home at Browns Plains in the early hours of this morning.
Police and emergency services were called to a townhouse fully engulfed in flames at 4am.
Logan District Chief Superintendent Brian Swan said a 49-year-old man and a 49-year old woman had not been located but he feared they were inside the gutted building.
"It is a complex, difficult scene, and it will take some time before we are able to safely search the scene to see if there are indeed remains present," he said.
Chief Supt Swan said police would be investigating the relationship between the man and woman.
"Earlier this month a temporary protection order was issued by Beenleigh Magistrate's Court and this is obviously forming part of our investigation," he said.
He said he believed the woman was the sole occupant of the house but police were still gathering information.
"It is early days yet, there is a lot of material detectives are going through and witnesses police are interviewing," he said.
A silver ute was also located in a carpark nearby, believed to be connected to the 49-year-old man. A second crime scene was set up as part of the investigation.
Police are working with firefighters to determine the cause and circumstances of the fire.
"It's terrible, an absolutely awful situation. We hope for the best but fear someone may have lost their life," he said.
Police have asked for anyone with information to contact police or Crimestoppers.
