THE Weather Bureau has issued a severe storm warning for parts of the Redlands, Logan, Ipswich and Brisbane areas, with damaging wind, large hail and heavy rain possible.
At 2.40pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Logan, and were moving east.
They are forecast to affect Brisbane CBD, Cleveland and Mount Mee by 3.10pm and Brisbane Airport, Wamuran and Woodford by 3.40pm.
In the Redlands, residents are reporting dark clouds and thunder as the storm approaches.

Severe storms are possible for south-east Queensland this afternoon and evening, with the potential to bring large hail, damaging winds and heavy rainfall.
Weather Bureau meteorologist Matt Marshall said the most likely areas for storms would be the Gold Coast hinterland, Greater Brisbane and Ipswich and the Sunshine Coast.
The bureau will issue warning as needed.
"Heavy rainfall and strong winds will return to the North Tropical Coast later this weekend, with an initial flood watch in place for coastal areas between Cooktown and Ingham," he said.
"This will be driven by a tropical low developing off the north east coast.
"This system is dynamic and is being monitored closely.
"There is currently a low chance of it intensifying into a tropical cyclone."
Hot conditions cover large parts of the state.
While a cooler southerly change will bring relief for south-east Queensland this afternoon, parts of the central interior and northwest will have to wait a few more days for reprieve from the heat.
