LOGAN will host two days of intense skateboarding competition next week as professionals from across Australia go head-to-head at the city's premier skate parks.
The Logan Showdown will kick off at Beenleigh's Doug Larsen Park on Saturday, December 5 before moving to the Flagstone Skate Park on Sunday, December 6.
The competition, developed by the Australian Skateboarding Community Initiative comes ahead of the Olympic debut of skateboarding in 2021.
At next year's Tokyo Olympic Games, the sport will be divided into two disciplines - park and street.
Both will be showcased as part of the Logan Showdown, with the park event at Doug Larsen Park and the street event at Flagstone. Both events start at 1pm.
Cr Karen Murphy, whose division includes the $3.1 million redeveloped Doug Larsen Park, said Logan was cementing its place in the Australian skateboarding community.
"The inaugural Logan Showdown will bring together some of our country's top skateboarders and I am thrilled we will be able to see them in action on our Logan skate parks," Cr Murphy said.
"The recent upgrade of Beenleigh's Doug Larsen Park in particular, has undoubtedly put Logan on the map for Australian skateboarders.
"Doug Larsen Park is a premier skateboarding facility, and I look forward to seeing some potential future Olympians honing their skills there."
Logan City Council has joined with ASCI, the Australian Skateboarding Federation and developer Peet Limited to host the event.
It marks the end of the Australian skateboarding season.
Pro skateboarder and Australian Skateboarding Ambassador for Indigenous Affairs Josh Weribone is set to share his love for the sport.
Competition divisions including open, women's, under 12 and under 16.
Community skateboarding enthusiasts can also enjoy live music and pizza from 4pm at Flagstone on Sunday.
