Logan City Council has welcomed state government funding which will encourage more recreational fishing in the city.
The government has given Logan City Council $20,000 towards improving fish movement at Scrubby Creek, Kingston.
The project involves replacing a culvert causeway with a fish passage that allows more fish along the creek.
City Planning, Economic Development and Environment chair Jon Raven welcomed the funding.
"Council is committed to improving its natural areas to encourage more residents to use them," Cr Raven said.
"Our local anglers know how important it is to fish responsibility and by increasing fish population in Scrubby Creek we'll be giving them more opportunities to enjoy our rivers."
"A similar project at Meakin Park, Slacks Creek, proved very successful and it's our hope that that success is repeated in Kingston."
Council will begin design work on the project which is expected to be ready next year.
In addition to improving fish habitats Council also runs an annual pest fish competition and education event.
The next event is scheduled for April 2021.
Council also plans to continue the roll out of its responsible fishing campaign which will see more signage installed at fishing locations as well as tackle bins.
