RS WILLIS Park was a place of celebration on Saturday as the Beaudesert Kingfishers held celebratory games to mark 50 years of junior rugby league.
After COVID-19 interrupted the 50th anniversary celebrations planned throughout the year, members, players and supporters turned up to watch their favourite Kingfishers from the youngest Beauy up and comers to the old boys have a run on the paddock.
The event also featured the launch of a club song for the Kingfishers, with everybody singing along to the catchy tune that, with many elated that the song contained names of several beloved Beaudesert players who helped forge the club's contribution to the heritage of the town.
The junior teams played their final games of the season while the senior men's cemented their place in the grand finals with a 32-0 win against the Redlands Parrots.
The women's open team went down to Aspley 26-4.
The highlight of the carnival was a masters game that saw the Beaudesert old boys face off against the Mununjali Eagles in a modified match of two 15 minute halves.
Munanjali Eagles took the bragging rights with a 20-8 victory.
Also present were lifetime members including Coral Antcliff, Sheila and Lloyd Venz, Val McGrath, Harold and Alma Herron, Ross Richardson, Ross and Junette Harth, Annie Bobbett and Keith Gee.
Federal MP Scott Buchholz, Scenic Rim MP Jon Krause, Mayor Greg Christensen and division 4 councillor Michael Enright joined the celebration.
Kingfishers president Maat Haack said when Brad Currie played the team song after presentations, it was a feel-good moment for all involved.
"We were really happy with how the song turned out, recorded by Golden Guitar award winner Josh Arnold," he said.
"We had some great footy and nearly every life member and club stalwart was there.
"It was an awesome day and the only way we've been able to celebrate our 50th birthday but it all went to plan within COVID-safe guidelines."
Haack said the Cabaret celebration event planned for November 14 had been postponed but would still go ahead next year.
He said the open women's team would play again next Saturday on the Kingfishers home ground at 11am, where the team would have another shot at making the finals.
