A councillor who heads up a council committee which oversees large tenders has defended its operation against claims of potential secrecy, saying its meetings were live streamed on the internet for all to see.
Logan City Council Procurement and Appropriations Special Committee chairman Jacob Heremaia said its meetings could hardly be more transparent.
He was speaking after a former Logan Ratepayers Association president told metropolitan media he feared the committee's lack of minute taking would lead to closed door discussions.
The committee also reports to the monthly City Governance Committee.
"The committee is leading the way in transparency in Australia," Cr Heremaia, the Division 8 councillor, said.
"Every single second is on Youtube. Anyone can watch, it's open doors.
"Our first meeting was a couple of weeks ago. People came in to watch, and it was recorded.
"It is more transparent than minutes."
The committee will meet quarterly.
City Governance chairwoman Lisa Bradley said setting up the special committee was an important step in ensuring council's procurement processes remained efficient.
"Logan City Council has always been committed to making its procurement as effective and beneficial as possible for both contractors and the wider Logan community," Cr Bradley, from Division 1, said.
"This committee will provide the necessary checks and balances to ensure not only that ratepayer dollars are saved, but that the best and most appropriate services are provided to the city of Logan."
Council spends about $500 million on goods and services each year, with more than 90 large-sized contracts to be awarded in 2020/2021
Division 9's Scott Bannan sits on the committee alongside Cr Bradley, Tim Frazer (Division 7), Miriam Stemp (10) and Natalie Willcocks (11).
