The story of an 81-year-old mother considering selling her house to pay for her son's surgery has touched hearts.
So much so that the Burnie Masonic Lodge has decided to step out into unknown territory and create a GoFundMe page for Matthew Hayes.
Worshipful Master Stewart Freeman said the Lodge had been flooded with offers after the story was published, including one from an ex-Marist student now living in Western Australia.
"I thought, 'how am I going to deal with all these donations?'," he said.
"I had no idea what I was doing ... But I thought it was a way that would be public, and people could get their money back if it doesn't work."
