Melbourne is entering its second lockdown, as Premier Daniel Andrews vows to prevent rising coronavirus cases in metropolitan areas reaching regional Victoria.
Community transmission of COVID-19 has continued to rise in Victoria. The state recorded another 134 cases overnight, after revealing yesterday the biggest daily increase since the pandemic began with 191 new cases. There were 127 new cases on Monday, and 74 on Sunday. There are currently 860 active cases and 41 Victorians are in hospital due to coronavirus.
Meanwhile Canberra has recorded its first new cases - three people who returned from Melbourne - in a month, and plan to ease restrictions are being put on hold.
