Half centuries from Leo Ahlawat, Ash Brown, Muhammad Hammad, Jagdeep Randhawa and Trent Spring ensured it was a day for the batsmen when Last Man Stands' winter competition got underway yesterday.
Rain played a part in the first day of the two-division competition, affecting two matches, but four games were completed over various venues.
Ahlawat's 50 came in the first match in Division 1, when he hit four big sixes on his way to the big score.
He helped the Now or Never B team to score 148 from their 20 overs, which was 10 runs too many for the Purple People Eaters at Glenlogan Park.
Brown made 52 from 30 but it wasn't enough to get his team over the line.
Greenbank team LMS Lumberjacks took on Crafty Tappers, last year's grand final winners, in the first match at Newstead Park, Logan Village.
Lumberjacks made their way to 3-159 after their 20 overs, with Hammad smashing the ball to all parts of the ground with his 50 from 17, and Randhawa making 53 from 45.
Crafty Tappers were almost home before losing late wickets and were all out for 152 in the final over, Lumberjacks winning by seven runs thanks to some tidy bowling by Shane Harris, with 2-10 from his four overs.
In a rain shortened game, BrokeBatMountain from Logan Village won by 18 runs due to their superior run rate after the Beauy Bucheurs innings was cut short due to the midday deluge.
Batting first, BrokeBatMountain made 177 from their 20 overs on the back of Spring knocking up an impressive 62 from 31.
When the rain came, Beauy Bucheurs were 2-36 after six overs and the result was confirmed.
New boys Test Eagles beat no Limits at Greenbank in Division 2.
No Limits made 121 from their allotted overs. They were held back by an outstanding bowling spell from Dylan Goodison, who returned 2-9 from four overs.
Test Eagles Scored the winning runs in the last over of their 20 and took the win by two wickets. Hayden Young's 3-39 was not enough to get No Limits over the line.
The bowlers triumphed in the rain in the other match of the day, which pitted Jimby Crickets against Now or Never's C team.
The Crickets stuttered their way to 86 from their 20 overs, but went down by four wickets.
Somi Grewal snared 2-8 from three overs for Now or Never.
Aaran Randall also bowled well, with 2-17 from four overs, but it was not enough to get the win for Jimbys.
