COUNCIL is conducting hazard reduction burns across the Redlands this week as preparations for fire season continue.
Burns will take place at Alexandra Hills, Mount Cotton and Redland Bay over the coming days.
Work in Squirrel Glider Conservation Area at McMillan Road began on Tuesday and further burns will take place tomorrow at Scribbly Gums Conservation Area near Winchester Road.
Heinemann Road and Sanctuary Drive conservation areas at Mount Cotton are scheduled for Thursday and Bayview Conservation Area at nearby Redland Bay on Friday.
Smoke has been seen at Alexandra Hills during the burn near McMillan Road today.
Council advised that all efforts were made to limit smoke hazards but the burns could still cause some inconvenience to people living nearby.
The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service has also advised that smoke from a planned burn at Daisy Hill Conservation Park on Wednesday may be seen in Sheldon, Mount Cotton, Cornubia and Shailer Park.
They urged motorists to take care on the roads as smoke may decrease visibility.
QFES regional manager Wayne Waltisbuhl told the Redland City Bulletin in April that planned burns were conducted to remove ground fuels and reduce hazards ahead of fire season.
He said crews monitored wind direction to reduce the impact on residents.
"Everybody is advised of what it is and the necessity of doing it and we do everything within our power to make sure the smoke is gone by night-time," Mr Waltisbuhl said.
Burn dates are subject to change pending weather conditions.
