A four-lane upgrade of the Mount Lindesay Highway at South Maclean is a win for motorists, according to Logan MP Linus Power.
The latest upgrade, which will cost $37.5 million, will upgrade the road to four lanes from Stoney Camp Road to Chambers Flat Road, reducing congestion and delays caused by accidents.
Mr Power said it would eliminate accidents like the multi-vehicle crash which happened on May 18 on that stretch of highway, which hospitalised a woman and caused headaches for motorists.
A similar accident happened on the highway in February, involving seven cars.
It closed one lane of the highway and caused traffic chaos as cars were diverted up a service road.
One person was taken to hospital after that afternoon crash.
"It is something that means there won't be those accidents and it won't lock up the highway," Mr Power said.
"There won't be those long delays for drivers.
"If there's a slow-moving truck going up the hill, motorists will be able to move past safely."
Mr Power said it would add to more than $100 million in state government funding for the highway.
"The announcement is a $37.5 million vote of confidence in our community and will play a crucial role in supporting jobs as we come out the other end of COVID-19," Mr Power said.
Mr Power said it was part of a raft of upgrades to the road which the government had undertaken.
"We've upgraded the Camp Cable road intersection, transformed the stretch through North Maclean, built a safe way to get out at Stockleigh Rd, four lanes to Stoney Camp Rd, and four lanes elevated bridge over the Jimboomba creek between Camp Cable and Tamborine St," he said.
"Now motorists can expect funding for more upgrades and jobs under the Palaszczuk government.
"This is what the community has wanted, it is what I have fought for.
"This is a significant stretch of four lanes all the way now to Chambers Flat Road."
"This shows that we will continue to support jobs, infrastructure and services in the Logan area."
The government announced more than $400 million in road funding, including $77.5 million for roads across Logan.
