IT is bittersweet for restaurants and cafes opening this weekend with restrictions easing allowing just 10 patrons at a time to dine in.
Owner of Everydays Cafe and Coffee House Toni Cooper announced the closure of her second restaurant, Valley Kitchen in Kooralbyn this week.
The restaurateur made the decision to close the doors after seven years and to reaccess at the end of the financial year,
"Our turnover dropped by 80 per cent after COVID-19 and instead of seven staff members we now have two," she said.
Everydays cafe would be open on Saturday and Ms Cooper had a few bookings, however she said the 10 patron rule was not viable for her business.
"I will have to get in extra staff, disinfect everything - basically more work for less return."
I wish it was all or nothing - fully open or just takeaways,
- Toni Cooper
Ms Cooper said patrons had to reserve seats and supply contact details, unless they had installed the COVID-19 app.
The restaurant had a backyard area that enabled Ms Cooper to set up tables with significant distance between them.
"I will be losing tables as there is space in the courtyard for 70 seats. Business is picking up slowly, people are more confident to go out now, but it is not like it used to be, it's really sad," she said.
The Railway Hotel would open on Wednesday for 10 patrons at a time and booking is preferred. However, it is still full steam ahead with take away meals at the hotel.
Beaudesert Hotel would not be opening tomorrow and a spokesman said it was likely they would only resume business when stage three restrictions were eased. From July 10, all going to plan, 100 patrons would be allowed inside restaurants, cafes and bars.
The Scenic Rim Brewery owner Mike Webster said they would not be able to open for just 10 patrons.
They plan to reopen when Stage 2 of restrictions come into effect on June 13. The 20 patrons would have to book for 90 minute time slots.
"We'll have a new breakfast and lunch menu and are keeping up with our patrons through Facebook updates and videos leading up to 100 patrons," he said.
