Work on providing Browns Plains State School students and the local community better access to sporting facilities has moved a step closer, with a new change room, field lighting and other minor works to be delivered soon.
Planning minister Cameron Dick said it was important community infrastructure projects continued to progress during these tough times.
"If our state keeps building, keeps pushing ahead with construction projects in our communities, then we're going to keep creating jobs," Mr Dick said.
Planned works include construction of single-storey change room facility, amenities, storage, a multipurpose space, a canteen, and four new field lights around the existing oval.
"These new facilities will be put to great use by the kids at Brown Plains State School, and others in our community," he said.
Sport minister Mick de Brenni said the project was part of the government's $12 million Community Use of Schools program, which gives Queensland communities greater access to school facilities.
"If this pandemic has reminded us of anything, it's the critical role that community sport plays," Mr de Brenni said.
"The lockdown has created the opportunity to deliver this project quickly, which means it will be less of an inconvenience during the construction phase," he said.
Education minister Grace Grace said construction was expected to commence in the coming months
"Although school sporting activities have currently been paused, we're getting to work on this project now so students can enjoy these new facilities sooner," Ms Grace said.
