Logan City Council will allow residents to use waste facilities after reviewing safety protocols.
Council has opened the facilities and imposed strict measures to protect staff and the public.
Council closed the facilities to the public last week.` It said the temporary access restrictions were necessary due to ongoing breaches of hygiene and social distancing protocols and in line with Council's priority to protect the health and well-being of the community, our customers and staff.
They also supported the stay home, stay safe message from governments and health authorities.
"Council's message is clear - if you are using extra time at home to spring clean your house and garden, particularly over the Easter break, please do not visit these facilities unless it's absolutely necessary," a spokesman said..
The new safety measures introduced means added delays and residents are asked to be patient as these facilities will be operating at reduced capacity.
Abuse of council staff or members of the public at these facilities will not be tolerated.
Residents are urged to come back later or use an alternate site if the queues are too long.
The Chief Health Officer has issued a direction to Queenslanders to stay home and restrict travel unless it is essential.
"Council will closely monitor customer behaviour under the new access arrangements and may have to reintroduce tougher restrictions once again if social distancing protocols are not followed," the spokesman said.
"Council has a legal obligation to maintain safety and follow government directives in its response to the COVID-19 crisis which are being regularly updated."
New rules for Logan's transfer stations
- No cash payments accepted (only voucher, eftpos or paywave). Containers will be provided in which vouchers can be placed - no direct handover to staff.
- Only a limited number of customers will be able to access the sites at any one time
- Customers must keep at least 1.5 metres away from all other people
- Reduced number of unloading areas
- Do not visit the waste transfer station unless it's absolutely essential
- As always, children must remain in the vehicle.
- Only the Browns Plains transfer station will be open on Good Friday.
- Please note that Council's household collection of waste and recycling bins will continue as normal.
Council's bulky waste kerbside clean-up program will also continue as programmed.
"Your safety, and ours, remains our top priority" the spokesman said.
