A former Greebank resident has captured footage of a terrifying tornado which tore apart her town in the United States.
Camryn Newton-Smith filmed the tornado from her balcony before taking shelter as the tornado sideswiped the University of Arkansas campus in Jonesboro on Saturday, March 28.
The F3 tornado cut a path of destruction through the city, seriously damaging hundreds of buildings.
Ms Newton-Smith's video shows it picking up debris as it gathers strength.
Ms Newton-Smith, who is one of three ex-Jimboomba Little Athletics stars in the States, and her classmates went to the bottom floor of a building and sheltered in a hallway.
"We were getting emergency alerts on our phones and the siren was going off around town so we knew what was happening," she said.
"I didn't really think it was serious, untiI saw it touch down and debris start flying around in the distance. That's when I left my apartment."
The former Park Ridge High School student said that she was not scared during the encounter.
"More shocked than anything. It's not something I've experienced before, only heard about," Ms Newton-Smith said.
"I'm sure that if it were closer to campus I would have been scared."
She emerged after 10 minutes to find extensive damage from the twister, but Ms Newton-Smith said it could have been worse, with the campus escaping the brunt of the tornado.
"Because of the coronavirus, most things were closed and people weren't out which was a really good thing," she said.
"We turned on the news pretty much straight away to find out what had happened."
Ms Newton-Smith said her parents, Ralph Newton and Peta Smith, were worried when they heard about the tornado and saw her footage.
"I wanted a video to send to mum," she said.
"Dad told me to stay safe and not go sight-seeing."
The pentathlete has had competitions cancelled as the coronavirus pandemic swept through the US.
Her latest cancellation was the Division 1 Track and Field Championships at Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Face-to-face classes had also been postponed.
Ms Newton Smith is not the only former Jimboomba Little Athletics competitor trying to escape the virus in the States.
Tianah List and Kyle Howlett are also in limbo.
Ms List is at the University of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and Mr Howlett is at New Mexico Highlands University.
