Logan City has a new mayor, with Darren Power beating Brett Raguse to the top job.
Mr Raguse conceded to Mr Power on Monday afternoon, as he trailed by more than 19,000 votes.
Mr Power said he looked forward to getting to work in the top job.
He said it was unfortunate he could not have a party to celebrate because of the ongoing coronavirus threat.
It was the end of a stressful and exhausting campaign for Mr Power.
"There were not very many stones left unturned," he said.
"Logan is a big city, and I really got to meet a lot of people."
In conceding, Mr Raguse urged residents to support Mr Power and the new councillors.
"We now all need to come together behind our new mayor and councillors to support them in creating our preferred future," he said.
Mr Raguse thanked his supporters for their belief in him during the campaign.
