A Heritage Park athlete whose Olympics campaign has been thrown into disarray by coronavirus has taken a pragmatic approach to his situation.
Ashley Molony will use the extra year ahead of the postponed Tokyo Olympics to further improve himself for competition in the decathlon.
His opportunity comes as officials considered a 2021 date for the games which were initially scheduled for this year.
Molony said he was devastated he would not compete this year, but looked forward to the extra opportunity the delay would provide.
"It's devastating, that's for sure," Molony, who is ranked in the world's top 25, said.
"But I have a year to build myself as a person, and as an athlete.
"It isn't very often you get this type of opportunity."
His training has been reduced to a home gym as he prepares for the new round of Olympic qualification rounds, and uses a screen to train with his strength and conditioning coach.
