LOGAN and Albert Fish Management Association, formerly known as Carpbusters is holding their eighth annual carp /Tilapia competition next month at Wyaralong Dam.
LAFMA president Mark Ward said the fishing event would take place on March 21 from 7am to help rid the waterways of the priority pest species considered the scourge of Australian waterways.
"Our main objective as well as getting rid of these pest species from the dam is to raise money to stock Australian native fish, Australian bass and Mary river cod," he said.
"Since 2013 we have stocked 95,000 bass and 45,000 cod.
"It has been encouraging to see fishers catching good numbers of quality bass along with lesser but good quality cod."
Mr Ward said there would be many prizes on the day including a kayak in the major draw.
Registrations, $20 for adults and $5 for juniors, would be open from 4 to 6pm on Friday, March 20 and from 5am the next day, with all entrants requiring a stocked impoundment permit, available online at daf.qld.gov.au or Australia Post.
Bait worms would be available from the registration area from 5.30am on the day, with weigh in to close at 2pm sharp on the day and prizes for the biggest and most carp as well as biggest and most telapia in both age categories.

"Come along and enjoy a day out ridding the dam of pests and restoring the balance by providing funds to stock bass and cod," Mr Ward said.
