Logan Village women in need of friendship, company and new skills are encouraged to sign up to a movement modelled on a similar idea for men.
The group is looking for more members to join them in forming a Logan Village Women's Shed.
Group members will learn to use power tools, and have a place for a cup of tea and friendship every week.
The group has already secured insurance and completed other paperwork, and now just needs more members to join up.
"We are ready to welcome members," chairwoman Eleanor Lyons said.
She said there were 10 members signed up.
"We can expand to any number, it doesn't matter," Mrs Lyons said.
The idea comes from the men's shed movement, and some blokes from Logan branch will be on hand every week to help the women learn how to use the tools.
Mrs Lyons encouraged any women to come to the first meeting of the movement. It is on from 9am on Saturday, February 29 behind the Logan Village Hall on Wharf Street.
"There are plenty of women around who want to do stuff around the house, but don't know how to use the tools," Mrs Lyons said.
Treasurer Diane Maky said the group aimed to learn how to make bird feeders, nesting boxes, picture frames and furniture.
Mrs Lyons thanked the the local men's shed for helping get the women's contingent off the ground.
"The Logan Village Men's Shed has been very supportive," Mrs Lyons said.
The Logan Village Lions Club donated $500 towards getting the group going.
