Thieves and vandals have targeted new housing estates across Logan, prompting a warning from Queensland Police to lock up and consider installing security cameras.
Police are conducting increased high visibility patrols of these areas around Logan in an attempt to identify and locate offenders while they are in the act.
Police say copper is high on thieves' agendas.
Officers urge builders to use standalone motion activated cameras, lighting and sirens.
"These are a great deterrent and provide a live feed of footage 24/7 to a compatible device and in some cases, are monitored by a security company," a police spokesman said.
Home owners living in new housing estates can assist by ensuring they are locked up and looking out.
Police urge residents to ensure doors are always locked with a key, even when they are home.
Make sure all external doors, including your garage, of your home are solid and fitted with quality deadlocks.
Consider installing an intruder alarm and security camera system that covers all external doors, windows and garage. Ensure the system is installed to Australian standards for domestic applications.
Consider installing perimeter security lighting including sensor lights.
