Recent rains have improved catches.
Mangrove jack are in good numbers, top spots include marinas, canal rock walls and bridge pylons and the best times have been at daylight and dusk.
Whiting catches have been good, best results have been towards the mouth of rivers and creeks, not the upper reaches. Boat traffic has spooked flathead in the shallows, catches have been best in deeper water.
There's been a lot of small bull sharks in all rivers and creeks, some not so small either. The Logan is producing good numbers, as is the Brisbane River, Jumpinpin and the Broadwater.
Mud crab catches improved, top spots include the backwaters of Jumpinpin, the Brisbane River, Kedron Brook Floodway and the Pine River.
Banana prawns have been hard to find in any numbers, the Pine River has been one of the better locations - they have been very scarce in the Bay.
Mulloway and threadfin have been consistent at night in the Brisbane River around the lighted areas. There have also been good numbers caught on live bait around a tide change inside Jumpinpin Bar both east and west of the Swan Bay entrance and in the Southport Seaway off the end of the north wall, over the submerged pipeline and around the north wall of Wave Break Island.
In the Bay, there have been lots of undersize snapper caught around Harry's and other artificial reefs, you need to get away from the crowds or fish before daylight. There are both school and spotty mackerel in the Bay, most of the action is on the eastern side around the Four Beacons area, bottom of Moreton Island, the dog leg in the Rous and top of the Rainbow Channel.
On the offshore scene, there are spotties and Spanish mackerel around but catches have been inconsistent at Palm Beach, the better catches have been off Brunswick Heads in northern NSW and on the Sunshine Coast.
Warmer currents have moved in closer creating some pelagic action, with reports of sailfish and small black marlin off the Group and wide of Flinders.
