IN A show of support for drought-affected farmers, nine North Maclean-based staff will drive a fleet of trucks carrying 60,000 litres of water to the Southern Downs ahead of Christmas.
Aqua Dig Vacuum Excavations has thrown its support behind the Brisbane Irish South-east Queensland Drought Run convoy on Saturday, December 21.
The convoy will start at Brisbane from 6am and finish at Stanthorpe to deliver desperately needed water to drought-stricken communities.
Aqua Dig Vacuum Excavations owner Earl Tipper said his staff members quickly agreed to volunteer their time to support the cause.
"It was not just me but the whole team that will make it happen," he said.
"I have got land at Beaudesert and have no grass or water so I know how hard it is, especially if that is your only income source.
"Luckily we do have water mains."
Mr Tipper, who will supply the water and nine trucks, said the decision to help out was simple.
"If you saw someone breakdown on the side of the road you pull over and give them a bit of help," he said.
"It is really just a bit of relief. When they do hay runs it doesn't save their stock but it does give the blokes a bit of a break."
Aqua Dig Vacuum Excavations employee Caitlyn Watson-Lupuljev, who will support the convoy, said it was important to relate to farmers going through a tough time.
"Every bit helps .... we know the drought is getting worse each year. You hear from word of mouth how bad it is," she said.
Logan Water Alliance contractor Maxibor Australia will also supply 40,000 litres of water in two water tankers and cover costs for drivers and other expenses.
Just shy of 70 per cent of Queensland is in drought, including Logan, which was added to the list this week.
