A PASSIONATE resident of 35 years has come to Logan's defence amid a controversial social media poll which has pitted the city against Mount Gambier for the title of Australia's worst town.
Last month the Sh** Towns of Australia Facebook page invited people to vote on whether Mount Isa or Logan was a worse town, and a majority voted for Logan.
Long-term resident Kath Jeffrey said she lived in Park Ridge, Marsden and Rochedale and believed Logan was the "city of joy".
"I don't think Logan is a crap city and I have lived here for 35 years," she said.
"It is an amazing city, as a matter of fact, I've worked out why some people call Logan people bogans ... what bogan means to me is beautiful, overcoming, gentle people among nationalities.
"We take the welfare of our city seriously, particularly at this time with what the firefighters are doing and the sacrifices they are making.
"It is not a city without fault but that is no different to any other city."
Ms Jeffrey said Logan's sense of community was its greatest strength.
"I have always found there are so many people in this city that you can go to for help if you are in trouble and you don't get that everywhere," she said.
"It is far better to find the gold in people rather than the rubbish."
Social media page Sh** Towns of Australia this week posted a "grand final showdown" between the South Australian town of Mount Gambier and Logan with the final result to be revealed next week.
The showdown has attracted more than 20,000 votes with Logan currently in the lead 65/35.
