STUDENTS from St Mary's primary school celebrated their success with a tennis day attended by Annabelle Watts, Joel Finnis and Kate Johnson from Tennis Queensland.
Ms Watts said the team, consisting of ten enthusiastic and passionate students, were excited to take part in the lunchtime ANZ Tennis Hot Shots session to showcase the tennis skills they had learnt throughout Term three.
"St Mary's Catholic Primary School adopted the partnership program component of Sporting Schools, and subsequently incorporated tennis into their curriculum throughout Term 3," she said.
"The school engaged coach, Nick Thorpe, from right next-door at Beaudesert and District Tennis Association.
"Straight off of a successful term of tennis, the school entered into the 2019 Brisbane International Schools Challenge - a competition especially for Queensland primary school students using modified equipment, formats and scoring.
"After taking the Pacific District Trial day by storm with a first place finish, the team went to Mermaid Waters on the Gold Coast for the South Coast Regional Final day.
"Donned in school colours and high on team spirit, after five rounds against alike talented and passionate players, St Mary's finished the day in a remarkable third place."
Scenic Rim MP Jon Krause brought his tennis racquet and despite the scorching heat on Wednesday was happy hit a few balls with the mini tennis aces, most of whom were year 3 and 4 students.
Both St Mary's and Beaudesert State School represented the Pacific Rim district at the Brisbane International School Challenge on November 1.
