FIRES are still burning across the Scenic Rim as 20 firefighters arrived in Boonah to relieve local firefighters yesterday.
A QFES spokeswoman said fires were still active but burning within containment lines at Mount Lindesay, Barney View, Clumber, Tregony, Palen Creek and Tarome.
"At Lower Beechmont a fire is burning in the area of the old Sarabah fire below Binna Burra in rough, isolated terrain, where Parks and Wildlife are keeping an eye on it with QFES assistance," she said.
"The fire at Spicers Gab has passed the lodge up there but there are a lot of fallen trees so fire crews are still mopping up out there."
The New Zealand Fire and Emergency crews arrived in time for a day of unrelenting heat as temperatures reached the high 30s today.
The Bureau of Meteorology says some measure of relief is in sight with cooler days predicted for the rest of the week.
BOM meteorologist Dean Narramore said the heat and humidity of today would be exacerbated by south-easterly winds bringing smoke from NSW as well as from the fires around the Scenic Rim.
"The only thing that will really help put these fires out is significant rainfall but there is none on the way this week," he said.
"The good news, if there is any, is that it will be slightly cooler for the rest of the week.
"We should see a drop of about five or six degrees right through to the weekend as well as light to moderate east to north-easterly winds."
Mr Narramore said the weather conditions after today should make things slightly easier for firefighters.
