LOGAN City Council's interim administrator has called on the community to steer clear of personal attacks, online bullying and harassment as the election campaign heats up.
Five mayoral candidates and 30 council contenders have already launched their bids to represent Logan City Council ahead of the March 28 poll next year.
Interim administrator Tamara O'Shea said digital campaigning would likely play a big role leading up to the election and called for a civil and respectful tone.
".... Sometimes these campaigns can become heated and personal and they play out in a very public way. Ultimately, the way in which candidates conduct themselves will be judged by the people of Logan," Ms O'Shea said.
"People need to remember that it takes a great deal of courage and commitment for someone to put themselves forward for nomination.
"I believe Logan will get the best elected representatives if candidates are able to contest this election based on their ideas, policies and vision for the city - not based on gender, ethnicity, religion or background."
Ahead of the 2020 election, Logan City Council launched an online information portal to guide people considering an election tilt.
The website includes information about local government, campaigning, elections and council business including the annual budget and role of the CEO and organisation.
Ms O'Shea said the online portal would help ease uncertainty for first-time candidates.
"Local councillors make important decisions that affect all our lives so it's imperative that a wide range of views, backgrounds and experiences are represented," she said.
"My hope is that the next incoming council will be driven by passion, diligence and good governance and that it will reflect the very fabric which makes this city so culturally abundant."
Ms O'Shea was appointed to her role following the dismissal of all elected Logan City Councillors on May 2.
She will step down from her role following the March election.
Logan City Council will hold a candidate information session in late January with further details to be released in coming weeks.
