KOALAS rescued from a bushfire near Spicers Gap have not survived, despite the quick action of rescuers.
The animals were taken to the RSPCA hospital at Wacol but were too unwell to survive.
RSPCA spokesman Michael Beatty said the decision was made to euthanase the animals after they were assessed at the hospital.
"The male koala had a retrovirus and although he did smell of smoke there were no injuries on him," he said.
"The female koala was older and she had a chlamydia-related reproductive disease.
"Unfortunately we had to put both of them down."
Mr Beatty said the koalas were among very few wildlife rescues related to the current fires.
"Unfortunately when these types of fires go through the bush a lot of animals are unable to escape," he said.
"Overall we had about 30 rescues from the fires in September and only about five this time.
"The current fires are not in a major koala habitat but there were sure to be other animals there who may not have survived the intensity of the fires."
Mr Beatty said on a brighter note the two koalas- Aisling and her joey Rupert who were rescued from the Sarabah bushfire in September were doing well.
He said there was some concern that Aisling would not make it but she had rallied and both mother and son were now with a carer.
"Mum is still recovering but both are waiting to be released, hopefully sooner rather than later," he said.
"We just need to keep an eye on the state of play because they will need to be released back to the area."
