OVER 50s lifestyle housing developer Living Gems is planning to expand with three resorts to accommodate at least 1000 residents in Logan Village over the next decade.
Land clearing has already started for on the 10 hectare Amber By Living Gems resort site which borders North Street, Waterford Tamborine Road and Manuka Street, near Logan Village State School.
Amber By Living Gems sales manager Dennis Ring said the 231-home development was expected to be complete within four years.
"It will be the first RV Home Park built south of Brisbane," he said.
"When we design the houses they will be built so you can park your caravan or motor home in your garage, which is very unique.
"What creates the success of these resorts is residential development. With Yarrabilba doing 25,000 homes and Flagstone doing 17,000 homes and Park Ridge and Chambers Flat doing 10,000 homes in residential sub-divisions, a majority are being sold to investors or first-home buyers.
"We are chasing their Mum and Dads."
Amber By Living Gems will include a two-storey clubhouse, bowling room, golf simulation, library, pool, gymnasium, cinema, craft room and other facilities.
In a sign the RV industry is booming, more than seven million Australians went on a caravan trip in the past two years, according to the Caravan Industry Association of Australia.
Mr Ring said growth in the caravan industry was putting pressure on over 50s lifestyle developers to adapt to this trend.
"We have worked closely with a full team of design and building professionals to master a plan for the grey over 50s nomads that will actively support their RV lifestyle needs," he said.
Mr Ring said over 50s lifestyle resorts were an attractive option for people who wanted to downsize while remaining close to their local community
"I have been in the industry for 20 years and found a majority of people come from within a 40 minute radius of where they live," he said.
"They don't really come from north of Brisbane, or Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide of Perth unless they have family in the area.
"A majority of people who want to stay in the area know where their doctor, dentist, chemist and hospital is and that is important to them."
Opal By Living Gems has been operating from Quinzeh Creek Road in Logan Village for the past eight years and includes 200 homes.
Land has also been purchased east of the Opal resort towards the Logan Village RSL for the proposed Crystal by Living Gems resort, which will comprise 200 homes.
Living Gems also has a Ruby resort (370 homes) and Sapphire resort (180 homes) in Eagleby.
