A RURAL firefighter, small business advocate, foster carers and the founders of Greenbank 50 Plus are in the running to win the Greenbank Community Hero Award.
Enriching Communities Greenbank are seeking to reward the unsung heroes of the local community at the Greenbank Rural Fire Brigade's Get Ready Queensland Christmas Extravaganza on Saturday, November 30.
The initiative is supported by Everleigh developer, Mirvac.
Locals have until November 22 to vote for one of the six nominees for a Greenbank Community Hero Award including Mathew Hilder, Mandi Thurston, Louise Bryant, Joy Patterson and Rob and Dell Livermore.
Enriching Communities Greenbank founder Suzanne Guastini said all of the community heroes were nominated by someone who benefited from their efforts.
"The awards are all about celebrating those people in our community who do amazing work for no real reward - they are the true definition of a community hero and quiet achiever," she said.
"It is really great to see each of our heroes being recognised by their peers, and they are all very worthy nominees and wonderful advocates of Greenbank and its surrounds."
Mirvac Residential Development Queensland general manager Warwick Bible said the Greenbank Community Hero Awards was about recognising people go out of their way to improve the lives of others.
"There are so many things - big and small - people can do to benefit the community in which they live, and our nominees are just a few great examples of these," Mr Bible said.
"We are thrilled to be part of this initiative for the third year running and hope the community gets behind these nominees, like they have done in previous years."
