PEOPLE living in Yarrabilba and surrounding areas can take up the opportunity to hone their public speaking and critical thinking skills at the Yarrabilba Toastmasters Club.
The club held its first meeting in August this year and has attracted a group of at least 15 members who meet at St Clare's Primary School Community Hub at 2 Combs Street fortnightly on the second and fourth Monday of every month.
Club president Thomas Krafft said it was his goal to replicate the success of south-east Queensland clubs and apply them at Yarrabilba.
"Our goal for next year is to get more people on board so we can become an official club and bring the best practice from other clubs into Yarrabilba and make sure it is vibrant," he said.
"I joined Toastmasters when I was 18 so I could communicate with people who are more educated and older than me.
"I achieved my goals of being able to communicate well with people, think impromptu and provide feedback to others."
There are 30 Toastmasters Clubs in south-east Queensland in suburbs including Jimboomba, Tamborine Mountain and Springwood.
Mr Krafft said everyone was welcome to attend a meeting and there was no obligation to join.
"If you decide you like us and that it is for you then you will get access to an online education program to read through literature and find projects and skills to work on," he said.
The next Yarrabilba Toastmasters meeting will be held on November 25 from 7pm to 9pm.
