Mulloway turned up in numbers this week, with surf beaches the stand out and best results coming from a good deep gutter after dark.
In estuary waters they were caught anywhere from the Pin Bar north to Slipping Sands and deeper holes and drop offs further inshore off the eastern tip of Short Island, Cobby Hole, Giant's Grave and Marks Rocks in the Logan River.
On the Gold Coast the Southport Seaway was the hot spot; they were caught in the deep water off the end of the north wall, the submerged pipeline, and further inshore off Wave Break Island's north wall and deeper holes in the Broadwater.
The bigger fish were taken on live baits but were also caught on a fresh mullet, tailor or dart fillet and one of the better baits in the surf was a big bunch of beach worms.
There have been good numbers of flathead at Jumpinpin. The better catches came from the Power Lines to Behms Creek, in the Logan River around Ageston Sands and on the sand banks at the southern entrance to Cobby Passage.
In the Broadwater they were caught at the mouth of the north and south arms of the Coomera River, mouth of Biggara and Loaders creeks and around the Sundale Bridge lights after dark.
There are plenty of sand crabs from along North Stradbroke Island down to Jumpinpin, and also in the channels between Garden and Macleay islands.
Weed has been an issue in some areas but you can usually get away from it by moving around.
In Moreton Bay school mackerel have been caught around the bottom of Moreton, top of the Rainbow Channel and around the beacons along the western side of Moreton.
Offshore there's been a few wahoo caught at Hutchies and anglers working much wider ground reported marlin if you find the warmer currents.
Quality bull dolphinfish are on the bite with better catches coming from anglers berleying heavily while anchored up reef fishing the bottom.
Have a live bait or unweighted pilchards ready if they show up in the berley trail.
