Superstar Australia and Perth captain Meg Lanning has crunched a last-ball six to catapult the Scorchers to a stunning, rain-affected WBBL eight-wicket win over the Melbourne Renegades under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern system.
Lanning smoked an unbeaten 44 off 24 balls to see the Scorchers home after inclement weather saw four separate rain delays and a revised target of 73 off seven overs under murky skies at the WACA on Friday night.
The target was originally 148 off 15 overs under DLS, before further showers reduced it to 107 off 10 and, when the heavens opened with the Scorchers 0-34 off four overs, 39 were off the last three overs when play resumed.
Explosive Englishwoman Amy Jones (23) was the early aggressor for Perth, teeing off on Maitlan Brown.
But when Jones (23) and compatriot Nat Sciver (first-ball duck) succumbed in successive deliveries to leggie Georgia Wareham (2-13), the Gades looked home before Lanning caught fire.
She thumped three fours and two towering sixes off her last eight balls, the last one sailing over the mid-wicket boundary with two runs required for victory.
"I'm still not sure what really happened to be honest," a stunned Lanning said after the match.
"I was playing some shots that I don't normally play.
"But when you need 10 an over, you've got to go out there and swing hard."
The Renegades were in the box seat for much of the evening after in-form Danni Wyatt whacked 74 not out from 51 balls to steer them to 1-134 from 15 rain-reduced overs.
The visitors raced to 45 off the first five when the first shower break came before Sophie Molineux (20) fell to a magnificent diving, outfield catch from Nicole Bolton.
English pair Wyatt and Tammy Beaumont combined for a quickfire unconquered 85 to give the Renegades the upper hand, only to be thwarted by Lanning.
